Colin Kaepernick comes to mind when I think of cultural diversity, ethics and morality. Colin Kaepernick basically gave up his career, when he decided to go against the normal routine. Colin Kaepernick, the American football star who started the “take knee” National Anthem protest against police brutality towards African American and other races. Ethics is defined as well founded standards of right and wrong that prescribes what human out to do, usually in terms of right and wrong, obligations, benefits to society, fairness or specific virtues (Velasques 2015)

In 2016, I worked for The Department of Social Services (DSS) within this particular workplace, I was able to work with a diversity of cultures and religions. One of the eligibilities to receive the SNAP benefits (Food stamps) is based upon household income and resources. However, there was a rumor and myth circulating within the agency that the African American cultural are lazy and many of them don’t want to work and like to depend on the government for assistance. I perceive that the myth and rumor came from deep rooted hate that stem from Slavery. In which continues to lead to police brutality and why many races, are still waring and fighting against one another.

I currently work with a Youth Organization as a Behavior Modification Specialist. I am African American and the majority of the children that I service are Caucasian. I notice that while I am out in the community, with my Caucasian clients, I normally get a lot of stares from different cultures. One of my Caucasian child who is four years old, often throws a temper tantrum to get what she wants from her parents. She tried to do this behavior with me as well, while we were in the grocery store. I ignored her behavior and there was a Caucasian lady that came up to me with a very nasty attitude demanding to know what I was doing with the child. I ignored her and continued to work with my client on her behavior. I perceive that she only gotten involve in this situation because in her mind I was mistreating this Caucasian child, even though I showed her my work badge. Everything that I was doing with the child was according to the agency policy and procedures, even though I was being questioned by a customer in the store. Working with children, the youth and also the elderly is very demanding, and you always have to make sure you are doing things according to policy and procedures. Mandatory ethics are put in place to protect the individuals that work for that particular agency and also the clients (Velasques 2015).
