Discussion

The discussion question consists of three independent parts. Address each part under your main contribution to this discussion board:

• Why is it important as a network engineer professional to understand the bandwidth needs for wide area networks (WAN)? How does bandwidth affect the average consumer or organization’s use of the technology? Justify your answer with practical examples.
• Describe the path a packet takes across the Internet from destination A to destination B by indicating the types of network devices the packet passes through. You may watch the following resource: “Warriors of the Net” at http://www.warriorsofthe.net/movie.html. Be specific in your description.
• Discuss the difference between a private cloud service and a public cloud service. Why are both necessary? Give real-world examples. Research examples of cloud services and identify one example of each of the following models:
  • Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)
  • Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
  • Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

  Part II

• Network Design

  Network design is considered a key activity in network management. It is no longer sufficient just to design and implement a network that optimally services an organization based on its present needs. In your design decisions, you must anticipate future requirements and consider the scalability of design and the evolution of technology. This week, you will revise the project plan you created in Week 1 for Roadster Corp. to incorporate specific network design elements. Based on Roadster Corp.’s requirements, develop a design document that recommends the various tools and technologies that will be used to address Roadster Corp.’s networking requirements. Your design document should include the following elements:

  • WAN connections between offices in each continent and between continents
    (Hint: Accurately Deploy TLS/OSPF/IBGB/EBGP and MPLS)
  • Tools and protocols to be used
  • Technologies to be used and evolution considerations to accommodate growth
  • Security considerations
  • Performance considerations

  For each element, the design document should justify how it will address Roadster Corp.’s specific requirements.
